Heroes is back? Yup. If you were like me, an avid follower of the NBC Primetime superhero drama you watched until the final episode of season three back in December 2008 and thought that was the season finale. Well, if you are like me, then you were WRONG. Season three is still going. After a short break Heroes is back for the continuation of season three which began last Monday, February 2nd. After the firing of two of the shows writer-producers and complaints from fans over the creative direction that the series has taken, Heroes is back and reportedly switching gears.

This portion of the show, called "Fugitives," gives the characters a bit of a fresh start in an attempt to recapture some of the defected audience and even gain new viewers. The show's ratings declined in the third season. According to many of the show's viewers the first season was the best, it told the story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Everything was new to the characters as well as the audience. Over time however, the complaint has been that the show has gotten too dramatic, too complex in its story lines-much in the vein of a daytime soap- and too predictable. The general consensus is, however, that the show can be saved! With better writing that is. Unfortunately, I only began watching the show the second season so I cannot speak for the first, but in the two seasons that I have been a viewer I find the show to be very entertaining and intriguing. Almost every episode I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. That's got to be saying something for the series. Or maybe I'm just lowbrow and don't know good TV...nah, that's not it.

I do see where some of the complaints about the show have come from but for my money Heroes is still a quality show; in fact, one of the best shows on television these days and one of the only shows that I watch. Even with its set backs the series still has enormous potential. Television networks are far too quick to give up on a show these days. Too many good shows have been canceled after low ratings on a few episodes. I don't want Heroes to be one of them. My only hope is that the current writers and producers can turn its creative direction around, regain its audience, and save Heroes. Save the writing, Save the show.

Catch episode TWO of Heroes: Season 3 Volume 4 "Fugitives" tonight on NBC 9pm EST.
